From a tower in the Limmat to a hotel in the Dorf.
The name Wellenberg recalls one of Zurich’s most historic places: the tower of the same name, which stood in the middle of the Limmat from the 13th century. According to legend, the city’s patron saints Felix and Regula were held prisoner here.
In the 1940s, the big cinema moved into our building. The Cinerama Wellenberg, one of the city’s oldest cinemas and run by the Scotoni family, became the stage for glamorous film premieres.
Sophia Loren · Gina Lollobrigida · Sean Connery · Roger Moore
The Scotoni family, whose company was founded in 1893, was one of Switzerland’s largest cinema operators. In 1990 the cinema became the Boutique Hotel Wellenberg – still owned by the family today.
The hotel is run with great attention to detail by Christian Scotoni, son of Dr Anton-Eric Scotoni (1916–2011). Its history can be felt throughout the building: in the pictures on the walls, in the design of the rooms and in the atmosphere our guests value so much.
